After an exceedingly robust, multi-year site search − which took into account a wide range of requirements (e.g. transportation infrastructure, a well-trained workforce, economic strength, among many other factors) − Amazon announced in 2020 that it selected the Town of Clay to host the company's second largest facility in the world. This 3.8 million square foot, $350 million dollar distribution center asserts itself as a state-of-the-art fulfillment center. Amazon has hired 1,000+ employees who will work alongside innovative robotic technology to pick, pack and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics, small household goods and toys. It is the first of its kind in upstate New York.
