The Town of Clay Department of Recreation and Human Resources
offers a diverse, year round program of activities for people of all
ages, as well as a number of fine facilities.
The administrative offices are located in the Clay Town Hall,

Summer Programs:
Playground Programs: The Recreation Department operates
playground sites and 2 mobile units to serve residents of the Town of
Clay. This program will be staffed with a director and several
recreation aides to provide supervised and organized play, for children
ages 6 to 13. Other playground activities will include arts and crafts,
pre-school play experience program for 4 & 5 year olds and a Penny
Carnival.
Youth Instructional Sports Programs are available
throughout the summer for boys and girls of all ages. Camp programs
include: football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, cheerleading,
volleyball, tennis, girls lacrosse and field hockey, wrestling,
gymnastics and softball. Also available is the popular pre-school safety
education program called Safety Village.
A number of Youth Leagues are available to Town
residents in the following sports; soccer, Little League, baseball, girl’s
softball and Pop Warner football. These leagues are organized by
volunteer advisory boards with the Recreation Department providing in
some cases facilities and some publicity information.
For our Adult population, we have men's, women's, and
coed softball leagues, crew, golf, and tennis instruction.
Families may enjoy our Concert in the Park series
Tuesday evenings 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. throughout the summer at Clay Park
Central on Wetzel Road.
Fall and Winter Programs:
Community Schools: The recreation department supports
the concept of community education through the operation of Community
School/Recreation Centers at Bear Road, Craven Crawford, Elmcrest, and
Wetzel Road Elementary Schools. Through this cooperative effort between
the school and recreation department, the best use of existing
facilities is provided for recreational services to all residents. A
staff member from the recreation department schedules and supervises
programs of community interest.
Youth Activities for fall and winter typically include
basketball, gymnastics, skiing, drama, baby-sitter workshop, parent/kiddie
gym, dance.
Adults may become involved in skiing, men's basketball,
coed volleyball, parent/child kiddie gym, fall softball leagues or any
of our open recreation programs.
Our Family Night Program includes Family Gym and Swim
for eight weeks held at Liverpool High School.
Spring Programs:
Spring Programs are highlighted by Adult and Youth golf instruction,
Spring Adult Softball and a continuation of fall/winter programs and on
going community school programs.
Special Family Programs:
These special family programs include: Family Gym and Swim, Easter
Egg Hunt, Concerts in the Park, Halloween Party, Christmas Tree Lighting
with a 'special appearance' from Santa and downhill skiing.
Clay Senior Citizens:
This program provides recreational activities for the senior citizens
of the Town of Clay ages 55 and over.
Some of the programs are: cards, bowling, chorus, swimming, Healthy
Hearts Fitness Club, day and overnight trips, picnics, parties, covered
dish luncheons with guest speakers, and monthly meeting with programs.
The Town of Clay new Senior Center is partially open for programs and
is located at 4948 Route 31 in Clay at the old fire station by the
railroad tracks. A grand opening will be planned when the center is
totally completed.

Town Parks:
The Town operates four townwide facilities which are designed to
accommodate large activities and functions. The four townwide parks are Clay
Park South (located at 7200 Buckley Road), Clay Park Central I and II
(located at 4821 Wetzel Road and 7858 Henry Clay Blvd.), Clay Park North
(at 4483 Route 31 behind old Town Hall), and Meltzer Park (located
at 8400 Stearns Road). Neighborhood parks which number around 28, are generally smaller
in size and located in densely populated residential areas. These are
primarily designed for neighborhood drop in type of recreational
activities.
